8 reasons why Brinkster is a shitty host
1. They don't allow php with their personal package. Come on you fucking assholes, I want some active server controls here. Right now, I pay about $60 a year for hosting, not bad, but to upgrade to php I need to pay an extra 36 bucks! Is that worth it? no.
2. They fucked over all the people getting free hosting. A few years ago Brinkster used to be a free host, but they decided to phase out that plan so they started putting ads up on pages and then they eventually got rid of them. The only free package they have now is the "educational package" (which DOES get php even though people pay nothing to use it). However, you still get ads with that one and it pretty much sucks.
3. Their e-mail hosting is slow. I have a couple e-mail accounts with Brinkster (they came with the plan) and I usually spend about 2 minutes waiting for the page to load. It's annoying as hell. On top of that I have my e-mail set to be forwarded to a non-brinkster-wait-forever account, and half of the emails aren't ever forwarded.
4. Who the fuck are these kids on the front page and why the hell do they look so happy if they are using Brinkster?:
5. No FTP access. You can only upload files from your browser (5 at a time max). Not only is it annoying, but it's impossible to upload any larger files because browsers really aren't mean for that.
6. Customer support sucks. When I first got an account, I had to ask them why I can't use an .htaccess file and they took forever to respond. When they did, they pretty much laughed in my face because Brinkster doesn't support .htaccess files, which brinks me to #7...
7. Brinkster doesn't support .htaccess files. It's very annoying. If you want to create a custom 404 page, you instead have to do it through Brinksters "control panel" and it didn't even work right when I tried it.
8. Brinkster's money back guarantee is only for 90 days. If it were for longer, I'd be gone by now.
After my year is up, I am switching hosts. Any suggestions are welcome.
