Why is America's Funniest Home Videos still on the air?
I was at work the other day and someone had on ABC. In the background I hear the sound effect that is made when someone is hit in the crotch and then the "whoop" sound effect of someone falling over. I recognized these sounds right away because they haunt me in my nightmares. So, I said to my co-worker, "Why the hell are they repeating America's Funniest Home Videos? Don't you know that it causes brain cancer?"
"They're not," he said. "It's a brand new episode."
So, I run over to the TV and there it is. The same low-quality, shitty videos with lame jokes. Only this time, there is a new host:

Tom Bergeron
(TIP: If you search for his name in Google image search, you get some pretty good porn)
You might recognize this failed actor, Tom Bergeron, from the hit game show Hollywood Squares (a.k.a. the #1 showcase for C-list celebrities). He also had a show on fox that was canceled after one season. Just think of how bad a show has to be to get canceled on fox after one season (even Nanny 911 lasted over one season).
Anyway, back to the point of this article; why the hell would they keep America's Funniest Home Videos on the air? It's been one of the most critically hated shows since day #1 because the videos are never funny and the audience always chooses the least funny video to win. On top of that, the show has been ridiculed by every comedian and TV show for the past 10-15 years. I don't think anyone watches the show (aside from my mentally challenged co-worker), so why the hell would they keep it on air?
Can someone please explain this to me?
